At its core, e-liquid is the driving factor behind every e-cigarette and can drastically make the difference between an enjoyable experience and something entirely the opposite. Thankfully, the current vaping market is filled with thousands of amazing offerings, many of which are represented in 180 Smoke’s extensive collection of e-liquids, including a selection of Canadian e juices. With premium eliquid brands like Twelve Monkeys' Vape Juice and All Day Vapor available online, there are a number of different flavours in both freebase as well as nic salt options.

While there are literally thousands of unique e-liquid flavours and manufacturers, all e-liquids are comprised of two key ingredients; propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). Aside from flavourings, all e-juice will have these two ingredients as they are vital to the vaporization experience. Without going into the finer details, all you need to know is one ingredient -- PG -- serves as the flavour carrier for the vape juice, while the other produces the vapour -- VG. Both of these ingredients have been deemed “safe for human consumption” by the FDA and have been used in the food and pharmaceutical industry for years.

Propylene Glycol: Also known as PG, this substance is used as the primary flavour carrier in e-liquids, and also provides a less viscous consistency to the vape juice. PG does also offer a slight throat hit, though nicotine will be providing the larger throat hit. Outside of vaping, PG is used in liquid sweeteners, ice cream, whipped dairy products, soda, and pharmaceutical vaporizers.
Vegetable Glycerin: Also known as VG, this substance provides the vapor in an e-liquid and does feature a mild sweetness. The substance is incredibly viscous, and e-liquids with a higher VG to PG ratio should only be used with coils that are large and designed to work with high VG vape juice. Outside of vaping, VG is commonly used as a sweetener. The substance is derived from vegetable oils.
When looking for a new vape juice, take careful consideration to the nicotine strength you choose, as going to high or low can seriously affect your vaping experience. This should obviously go without saying, but it is always worth mentioning to stay within your nicotine limits. This is especially important for new and inexperienced vapers, who may incorrectly gauge the amount of nicotine they actually need in their vape juice.

It should also be noted that there are currently two distinct types of nicotine used in e-liquids. Freebase, which is available in 0, 3, 6, 12, and 18mg of nicotine, is perhaps best used in sub-ohm devices. On the other hand, nicotine salt -- formerly available in 10, 20, 35, 40, and 50mg but due to Canadian regulations is now only offered in 20mg-- should only be used in pod systems, or tanks that do not require high wattages.

If you are new to vaping, you may want to do a bit of research on nicotine strengths and what may work best for you. Consuming too much nicotine can of course have negative effects, so we always recommend a using a lower dosage at first and then eventually moving up to a higher strength if necessary.
